This manifesto should be an expression of your beliefs and desires about digital media. We've established that media forms we see around us are increasingly digital and read the
manifestos of many people from the past expressing their thoughts on what it all means. You may not know yet what it means, but this manifesto is a barometer of your current thinking
here at the beginning of the class.
What do you want to see out of digital media, meaning computers, streaming, social media, smart phones, etc.?
- Bush maybe wanted to see the organization of information for knowledge
- Nelson maybe wanted to see computers used as free tools of art expression and experimentation
- Barlow maybe wanted cyberspace to be a new country online, a community that would be self-governed and feel free from other regulation
- And for today, Haraway wanted to use the idea of the cyborg to address problems in feminism, and with US imperialism, that she wanted to fight against
We can't achieve anything new if we can't imagine it, so what do you imagine for the future of digital media?
